Stamps eliminate Terriers

For the second straight game in Portage, the Terriers blew any chance they had of winning on home ice by allowing four goals against in the final period. Swan Valley blew open a close 2-1 game in the third period with four goals – three in the span of 35 seconds – to clinch the series with a 6-1 victory.
Myles Stevens, the MJHL’s leading point scorer in the playoffs, capped off a terriffic series against the Terriers with a pair of goals, giving him four for the series, along with five helpers.
Connor Pennell, Carter Selinger (with the final MJHL goal ever scored in the Portage Centennial Arena), Ryan Marshall and Chris Reimer also scored for the Stampeders in the win. Cody Kostecki had the lone goal for Portage, a second-period marker which slashed Swan Valley’s lead to 2-1 at the time.
Jordan Washburn got his second straight start for the Terriers. And while he was able to extend the series one more game, he allowed six goals on 34 shots to take the final loss in Portage’s Centennial Arena. Jayme Janzen earned the win with a 24-save performance.
Neither team took advantage of the many power-play chances handed out. Swan Valley finished the game 0-for-8 while Portage went 0-for-3.
The game got a bit nasty in the dying moments of the game, with a couple of late fights, but the Stampeders appear to have escaped without any major injuries or suspensions.
